Official Bio

Theresa M. Claiborne is an accomplished aviation pioneer, recognized as one of the few Black female captains in the industry, and a steadfast advocate for diversity in aviation. Her illustrious career began with her commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, where she broke ground as the first Black woman pilot. Theresa’s tenure at United Airlines saw her achieving the rank of captain on multiple aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. She is also the President of Sisters of the Skies, an organization dedicated to increasing the representation of Black women in aviation through scholarships, mentorship, and community outreach. Her leadership extends to her role on the board of directors for the Women AirForce Service Pilots (WASP) Museum and other notable aviation organizations.
